Cakes, biscuits, and other sweet treats are getting the royal treatment as bakeries gear up to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
There are crowns and corgis galore on everything from lavish celebration cakes to humble gingerbread biscuits, indulgent brownies and pimped up Victoria sponges.
Here are some of the crown jewels available ahead of the bank holiday weekend:
Platinum Jubilee Cake, Patisserie Valerie
Patisserie Valerie is vying for celebrations with its limited-edition Platinum Jubilee Cake and Tiffin Cake. The former is decked out in royal purple icing and features layers of vanilla sponge berry cream, fresh cream and mixed berry filling and coated with Swiss meringue buttercream. It’s garnished with gold flecks, golden sprinkles, vanilla macarons, and a miniature gold crown.
The understated but indulgent Tiffin Cake, meanwhile, is packed with rich tea biscuits coated in dark chocolate ganache and finished with a caramelised biscuit crumb and a golden chocolate crown.
Royal Mint Jubilee Brownies, Cake or Death
Vegan bakery Cake or Death is celebrating the Platinum Jubilee with one of the Queen’s favourite treats – Bendicks Bittermint Chocolate. These after dinner mints, which carry the Royal Warrant, are placed on top of the bakery’s classic brownie which has been infused with peppermint oil.
Corgi Cake, Morrisons
Morrisons has commemorated the Queen’s pet of choice with Clarence the Corgi Cake. The cake, which was named following a Facebook competition, is a chocolate covered Swiss roll decorated with red, blue and white sprinkles. Clarence is finished with an edible face, boots, and a Union Jack crown. It serves 12 people and costs £6.
Morrisons has also created an Elizabeth Sponge cake in honour of the Queen. It follows the recipe of a Victoria sponge layered with strawberry jam and whipped cream before a Morrisons cake maker tops it with fresh strawberries and a dusting of icing sugar. The cake costs £4 and serves six people.
Crownies, Hummingbird Bakery
The Hummingbird Bakery has given some of its beloved classics a Jubilee makeover with pieces of hand-cut fondant and hand-piped detailing to dress them for the occasion.
Kicking things off are Crownies – indulgent frosted brownies decorated with a fondant crown. The Biscuit Bar, meanwhile, is a firm favourite of the company’s head baker. Similar to tiffin, the Biscuit Bar features a biscuit base loaded with chocolate, raisins and cherries then layered with a slab of gold coloured milk chocolate and finished with a silhouette of the Queen’s head made from fondant.
Hand decorated cupcakes are also on offer alongside a Red Velvet Jubilee Cake which is smothered in cream cheese frosting and finished with a golden fondant wreath and the Queen’s profile, as well as a Vanilla & Raspberry Jubilee Cake which is the bakery’s take on a Victoria sponge filled with raspberry jam and buttercream encased in a lilac buttercream frosting.
Celebration Eclairs, The Delicious Dessert Company
Strawberries and cream are an iconic taste for the Jubilee weekend, according to The Delicious Dessert Company, which is why it has embraced the flavour pairing for its Celebration Eclairs.
The eclairs are filled with strawberry creme patisserie and cream, and finished with chocolate fondant and pink coloured lacing. They’re available from nearly 500 Tesco stores as of Monday 16 May for nine weeks.
Crown Gingerbread Biscuits, Asda
The crowning glory of Asda’s celebratory range are the Crown Gingerbread Biscuits, priced at 60p each. Crowns feature elsewhere in the retailer’s summer range with a savoury twist in the form of Mini Coronation Chicken Pastry Crowns.
Elsewhere Asda is offering up a nine-pack of Jubilee Cupcakes which are topped with frosting and finished with regal decorations including edible crowns and red, white and blue sprinkles.
Victoria Sponge Jubilee Cake, Bradford Bakers
Bradford Bakers are keeping things traditional but with a twist by serving up a red, white and blue themed Victoria sponge. Each cake is filled with buttercream and jam before being hand finished with a shaped chocolate plaque with a crown on it. A cake topper banner is also included.
A chocolate fudge version complete with thick chocolate frosting is also available alongside Vanilla & Chocolate Jubilee Cupcakes which are decorated with vanilla and chocolate frosting before being topped with golden crowns and coloured crispy pearl decorations.
Commemorative Biscuit Tin, Walker’s Shortbread
Walker’s Shortbread, which holds a Royal Warrant, seeks to honour every royal occasion and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee is no different. The limited-edition commemorative tin features official photographs paying homage to her 70-year reign alongside Walker’s tartan sleeve and is filled with Union Jack-shaped shortbread.
