Baking and cake decorating wholesaler Culpitt has acquired the non-edibles division of Food Innovations Baking Group out of administration.

The sale secures the 185 jobs across the non-edibles division, which comprises Doric Crimped Limited, Doric Crimped Properties Limited, Doric FPD Limited and Doric Cake Crafts Limited.

Culpitt managing director Tom Wylie said he was delighted to welcome the businesses to the Culpitt Group. Based in Burnley, Lancashire, the Doric companies supply products including cake boards, drums and paper cases.

“We have charted their progress and admired the business for many years and have always viewed such an acquisition as a perfect fit,” added Wylie.

“The acquisition brings together talented groups of people, complimentary product ranges and the opportunity to bring economies of scale which can only be positive news for our collective customer base.”

Business advisory firm FRP had been seeking investment for the non-edibles division following the closure of the edibles division, which comprised Food Innovations Holdings Limited and Food Innovations (Manufacturing) Limited, last month.

“The non-edibles division of Food Innovations Group has been trading well despite the challenges facing the rest of the business,” said FRP partner Anthony Collier.

“We are pleased to have quickly found a buyer of such pedigree in the industry that can take on the business and provide a solvent solution for the employees, suppliers and other stakeholders of the group.”

Collier and Simon Farr were appointed as joint administrators to Food Innovations Baking Group Limited on 27 September and immediately completed the share sale to Culpitt.

Established in 1921, Culpitt has two BRC accredited production sites in Northumberland where it manufactures cake boards and a wide variety of sugar decorations, including fondant sheets, printed wafers and printed confectionery. It also wholesales a range of brands including Renshaw, Rainbow Dust and House of Cake.
